For its 56th season, the Augusta Choral Society invites you to join in our celebration of choral music. The ACS is “the symphonic chorus of the CSRA” and its 2006-2007 season demonstrates the significance of the choir to the artistic community in the region.

Firstly, there are the masterworks by Franz Joseph Haydn, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Camille Saint-Säens, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. These works have been chosen specifically for their intrinsically aesthetic quality and audience appeal. Yet, concerts have been designed so as to provide for evenings that combine grace, charm, and substance with a noteworthy assortment of styles and manners of presentation. Each concert will combine several works under a single “themed” umbrella.

Further, in order to provide another dimension to the season, the ACS will participate in the annual Lessons and Carols at Sacred Heart Cultural Center in December and present an entire evening of folk song settings in April along with students from the famed Augusta Preparatory Day School. Both concerts feature unaccompanied and lightly accompanied works that provide the chorus with opportunity to reveal and absorb new ideas, techniques, and sounds.

So, the 2006-2007 season will combine some of the finest choral/symphonic works of the past three centuries with concerts within the community that emphasize music from the folk tradition. It will be a challenging year full of outstanding concert moments. Join us!
